a video came across my Facebook feed today that featured a baby eating her first cake. I’d link y’all to the video, but I can’t find it anymore. And it’s a cute video for the most part. The mom puts a smallish, one layer cake in front of the baby, and the baby, being a baby, picks the whole cake up and tries to eat it. Because that’s what babies do.
And I giggled because it was cute. The video itself was about a minute and a half long and towards the end of it I felt a little uncomfortable watching the mom and dad laugh at this little girl because it seemed obvious to me that they didn’t understand the baby’s normal reaction to anything was to pick it up and put it in her mouth. It’s kind of an instinct. It doesn’t matter if it’s a chocolate cake or a slug (my daughter did that, but I caught her before she actually got it into her mouth). They explore the world by putting things into their mouth. I dunno, if you’re going to raise a small human, you should at least know the basics and not tease a baby for doing something she has no control over… But that’s my own opinion.
Anyway, found the video on YouTube… it’s kinda funny. See for yourselves. Maybe I’m just grumpy because I’m not feeling well. ^_^
